Roses in bloom now – winter 2013
The roses in the Australian Rose Maze have been blooming in profusion over an extended season due to the unseasonably warm weather. The outside hedge of ‘Restless’ (Alistair Clark, 1938), has been relentless, flowering since November, which is the reason it was suggested by Noelene Drage, over 13 years ago. Another really good performer has been ‘Shadow’ (George Dawson, 1966). A magnificent, robust, deep red, velvet rose with a lovely perfume. So highly do I regard this rose, I have just planted seven in our front garden. It is little known in WA but a proven performer in the maze.
